As I’m preparing for the next surf tour to the Maldives, I think it is a good idea to create an article about this fascinating country in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Without more hesitation, let’s start.<\/p>\n

From Volcanoes to Islands<\/h2>\n

In the middle of the ocean, a group of islands formed mainly of coral atolls rest with sandy beaches and blue waters. Millions of years ago these islands were a volcanic mountain range from north to south. Today the Maldives islands rest over the crowns of those ancient volcanoes.
\nThe islands remained isolated for a huge period of time during the prehistoric and classical ages until the first settlers came in. People coming from many places like India, Sri Lanka, the middle east and Madagascar started to populate the atolls.

The present of the Maldives Islands<\/h2>\n

Soon the inhabitants developed their own language, culture, and identity, this still remains until today.
\nHalf of the Maldivian people still live a rural lifestyle, mostly because most of the islands aren’t big enough to develop huge cities. The only exception is the city of Male which takes the whole atoll. Airports, hospitals, schools, and government buildings are located there offering services and products.
\nBut the rural lifestyle is one of those things that makes the Maldives so attractive. People have been adapting their houses and day-to-day activities as tourist services. For example, fishing has become an attractive activity to offer visitants an exciting time.
\nThe smallest atolls include exclusive hosting facilities where tourists can share an island with just a few.
\nToday, tourism has become the main source of income of the country, topping fishing since some decades ago.
\nThe official recognize state religion is Islam. People are very friendly but also very concerned about their faith, so if you are planning to visit Maldives remember to learn about the etiquette one should have. It is nothing complicated, just be respectful of their laws, their inheritance, and their customs.

One of the most valuable resources of the islands<\/h2>\n

Now, we have to talk about the ocean around the islands. The coral reefs are home to thousands of species of sea life like colorful fishes, crabs, manta rays, turtles, dolphins, etc
\nScuba divers paradise if you ask me.
\nAlso, fishing fans can find tours all around the country. Charters are available even for night fishing, a very popular activity because the most sought-after fishes by fishermen are mostly active after sunset.
\nThen, we have water sports. You can find beaches with calm waters, perfect to practice all kinds of activities. Kayaking, canoeing, jet skiing, and paddleboarding are just a few of the dozens of things you can do here.

Surfing on the Maldives Islands<\/h2>\n

Last but not least, the main reason I chose the Maldives Islands as one of the World Surf Tour Destinations, is the amazing waves you can find there.
\nThe Maldives is a world-famous destination for surfers looking for new challenges.
\nMaybe the volcanoes are gone but the wild waves remain. Do not worry, they are not untameable. A team of surf coaches is more than ready to teach you how to handle these waters.
\nMany of the coral reefs create reef breaks that help to create the perfect waves for intermediate surfers. The ambient is suitable for those looking for refining their surf skills.
\nSince the best spots for surfing are away from the beach, we will be riding a boat to help us to get to those spots. This is a unique experience, quite different from the typical surfing and paddling near the beach.
